Additive manufacturing based on two-photon polymerization (2PP) has evolved as the new standard for microfabrication. Recent advances driven by two-photon grayscale lithography (2GL®) further boost the performance meeting quality as well as speed requirements for wafer-level optics and photonic packaging. This addresses today’s challenges of rapid innovation cycles in the prototyping phase of industrial research as well as the ever shortening turnaround times of tools needed for large scale fabrication based replication techniques. PIC industry specifically benefits from the ability to produce optical components at the point of destination without glues nor active alignment - on optical chips, optical fibers, laser facets or as optical interfaces to the periphery.
Martin Hermatschweiler is co-founder and CEO of Nanoscribe GmbH ever since the company was founded in 2007. His main task is driving the company's growth, particularly through the development of new markets. He studied physics in Ulm and Karlsruhe and gained extensive expertise in laser based patterning of polymers as well as surface coating techniques based on semiconductor processes in his scientific career. He holds several patents and was chosen by the business magazine “Capital” among Germany’s 40 most-talented entrepreneurs younger than 40 years old (2016).
